What is an underlying question that gives form to your work or interest in this field?
How can I help shift our human intelligence and energies
to intentional, conscious evolution?
What is your personal experience of collective
wisdom in groups?
I've been fortunate to be in groups that have coalesced
into coherence and resonance, yielding an integration that is the fundamental
substrate for creative, collective wisdom. One of my research interests
is to examine the quality of such group consciousness with scientific
measures. As a result, I've been blessed with more than the usual share
of such experiences.
What is it about the work in this field that excites
you and connects you to your own deepest self?
We experience the world with beautiful immediacy, and
with a quality of direct participation that seems completely natural.
And yet it is quite magical. We take meaning from music, we know our
loved ones from afar, and we leap in thought to the stars. Sometimes
we sense that we have dissolved ourselves into a group or a larger whole.
And we always have prayed as if it could make a difference. (from http://noosphere.princeton.edu/poethist.html)
Please provide a brief storyline or snapshot of
what brought you to this work.
Here's a chapter title for what brought me to my work:
"Design by Coincidence." I was curious growing up, and gifted
with an environment that allowed me to sample science and poetry, east
and west, past and future in my imaginings. Thus I was prepared for
synchronicity, for meaningful meetings with remarkable men and women.
The choices I made about where to be and what to do were from a short
list that in retrospect could hardly have been a simpler recipe for
progress to an unlikely occupation. David Bohm said in Causality and
Chance:
"First of all, we note that the universal interconnection
of things has long been so evident from empirical evidence that one
can no longer question it."
That's right, I think, and it is hard to envision a more
rewarding challenge than to apply this understanding in the world.
How would you like to be available to others in
this field?
The GCP is a large-scale collaboration that runs mostly
on email connections, with occasional meetings and public presentations
that allow me to see and touch people. This is rewarding for me, and
I think it is another means to accomplish one of my primary missions,
which is to help promote conscious evolution by giving people evidence
of our interconnection and interdependence.
