What is an underlying question that gives form to your work or interest in this field?
How do we tap our collective intelligence, systems consciousness,
and co-creative power for a sustainable future?
In practice, how do diverse stakeholders collaborate
across boundaries (organizational, cultural, political, geographic….)
to address the pressing, complex, messy issues and needs of our world?
What is your personal experience of collective
wisdom in groups?
Magic can happen in groups, where the ‘many’
become one heart, one mind and one spirit, releasing extraordinary creativity
and power. Only rarely does this occur spontaneously and effortlessly.
Tapping collective intelligence and wisdom usually requires an investment
of time spent together sharing, exploring, discovering, learning, bridging,
dreaming and planning. A deeply compelling question must catalyze the
group’s central intention. A foundation of respect and civility
among members is paramount. Appropriate use of process and design matters.
Collective wisdom arises when groups have the courage to go through
the chaos and mess of their differences, have surrendered to the possibility
of doing anything the old way, and are committed to finding their way
through wholeness and integrity.
What is it about the work in this field that excites
you and connects you to your own deepest self?
My work is about transformation in groups. I believe
a critical mass of aware servant leaders is building in our organizations
and communities around the globe, committed to self and social evolution
on behalf of sustainable life for all. Any work that serves to connect
us to one another, helps us to dialogue and learn together, affirms
our heart’s wisdom and our soul’s longing, and empowers
us to act together towards a future we all want – this work excites
me. As a Certified Professional Facilitator and an Organization Transformation
consultant I specialize in dialogue, collaborative learning and whole
system change. With my life and business partner, Don
Haythorne, I have co-designed and facilitated several hundred sessions
with groups of all sizes, in public and private settings through our
business Breakthroughs UNLIMITED Inc. Currently, I am co-writing a book
with Ann Svendsen of CoreRelation Associates Inc., entitled, Co-Creative
Power: Tapping Our Collective Intelligence for a Sustainable Future.
We also offer workshops and conferences on the new terms of engagement
in our networked world through the Centre
for Innovation in Management at Simon Fraser University.
